A 22-year-old woman, identified as Okafor Sharon, was on Thursday arraigned before an Igbosere Magistrates’ Court for allegedly causing grievous harm on a sales attendant in Lagos state.
The prosecuting officer, O. Balogun, told the court that Sharon unlawfully assaulted the complainant, simply identified as Comfort, with a breakable plate and injured her on the face following a disagreement over payment for drinks and N400 fried meat at a bar in Lekki Phase One, in Eti Osa Local Government Area.
The victim had served Sharon who ordered for drinks and N400 fried meat.
The suspect, a second-hand cloth dealer, was at the bar in the company of a man, simply identified as Kingsley.
The sales attendant, afterwards, demanded for payment as she was about to retire for the day and needed to tidy up sales book for the day.
Sharon was said to have ignored the victim, insisting that Kingsley would only pay when they were done.
Comfort, however, tried to take back the drinks when Sharon threw a plate at her which damaged her face.
The prosecutor noted that the accused, who was arraigned on one count bordering on the offence and accused of unlawfully causing the victim grievous bodily harm, contravened Section 243 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, Vol. 44, No. 2, 2011.
The accused person however pleaded not guilty.
The presiding magistrate, Mrs. A.T. Omoyele, adjourned the case till September 16 for mention.

Mariam Usman, the only weightlifter that represented Nigeria at Rio has said she has lost the urge to represent Nigeria at international events.
Mariam, a Commonwealth medalist in the +75kg in weightlifting, left Nigeria for Brazil, knowing fully well that winning a medal at the Rio 2016 Olympics would be a tough call.
She would not pretend to be a magician nor claim perfection where there is none. Usman believes one can only reap where one sows.
She competed in the +75 category, amassed 265 kg and finished 8th in her group. While speaking to reporters at the Games Village in Rio, Usman said:
“It is painful to come to the Olympics and see people who are your contemporaries perform better than you; not because you lack the ability but because you were not prepared like them,” she said.
“For me, it is not just about jumping unto the plane every four years to go to the Olympics. Every athlete you see here wants to step on the podium. If you can’t aim to climb up there, you have no business coming to the Olympics. I can only consider going to another Olympics if things change for the better. But if the statues quo is maintained, I don’t think I will go to another Olympics again.”
She said training for the Rio Olympics was non-existent while her counterparts from other countries who are competing here in Brazil have been training for three to four years.
“Olympic gold medal doesn’t come cheap. It is painful that one has to suffer and when competition comes they expect you to win a medal with your blood. “The people you have to compete with had everything they needed: training grants, competitions and are exposed to the most modern equipment. I had nothing. You don’t expect such people who have invested so much to lose to one who don’t even train adequately.”
The African champion said before the 2012 Olympics, she had better training than she did this time.
“Yes, I feel 2012 was better. I had better training and my result was better. This time nothing was done to better one’s performance.”

Two suspected fake soldiers who allegedly abducted and rape 15-year-old girl, left by the roadside in Oworonshoki area of Lagos State have been arrested.
According to a popular daily, the suspects – Damilola Balogun and Joseph Agbo allegedly raped the teenager till daybreak.
A police source in Owoshonki Police said: “The victim came to report the matter at the station. She was on an errand along Akerele Street in Oworonshoki when the men, who wore army camouflage, accosted her.
“Before she could cry for help, they had forcefully whisked her away on a motorcycle to Muritala bus stop where she was raped till daybreak. They threatened to kill her if she shouted. They later released her in the early hours of the second day.”
The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Dolapo Badmos, said four Automated Teller Machine cards and 17 identity cards were recovered from the suspects.
She said, “The police recovered items which included military camouflage, two berets, two mobile phones, four ATM cards from different banks, and 17 ID cards bearing different names. After interrogation, it was discovered that the suspects were impersonators.
“They are also suspected to be hoodlums terrorizing the area. The suspects will be transferred to the Special Anti-Robbery Squad for further investigation and prosecution.”

The Nasarawa state police command says two Chinese attached to West African Polaris Investment have been kidnapped in Agada village, Nasarawa Local Government Area of the state.

Police Public Relations Officer Ismail Noman disclosed on Saturday in Lafia that, XJieng AI Jung, 50 and Wenso Ping, 45, were ambushed by unknown gunmen at about 2.28p.m. on the their way to Abuja.
He said that although the gunmen, wielding sophisticated weapons, were still at large, the police had begun investigation to track them.

According to him, security operatives in collaboration with vigilante groups, local hunters and community leaders have also been involved in the search of the victims.
He said security operatives had been deployed in to the forests and bush around the area to arrest the suspects and rescue the victims.

“The Commissioner of Police, Alhaji Abubakar Sadiq-Bello, has directed that the search operation team should do everything possible to ensure that the victims are rescued,’’ he said.

The Republic of China has been forced to deny claims that it is marinating dead bodies, canning them and selling them as a meat product in Africa, after a bizarre Facebook hoax went viral.
Rumours of the alleged trade in human meat first began circulating on social media thanks to a series of photographs of what appeared to be skinned people in a meat factory.

Zambian press was accused of encouraging the rumours, after publishing articles that quoted alleged sources from inside the Chinese meat factories.
According to the alleged sources, the idea to use human meat came when China ran out of space to dispose of its dead.
Others claimed Beijing preferred to save its ‘good meat‘ for richer, more powerful countries.
But China’s ambassador to Zambia has issued a furious denial of the allegations.


Today a local tabloid newspaper is openly spreading a rumour, claiming that the Chinese use human meat to make corned beef and sell it to Africa,’ said Yang Youming, according to China’s Xinhua news agency.

‘This is completely a malicious slandering and vilification which is absolutely unacceptable to us. We hereby express our utmost anger and the strongest condemnation over such an act.’

He reportedly claimed that the rumours were being circulated by ‘people with ulterior motives were attempting to destroy the long-standing partnership between Zambia and China’.

A 16-year-old girl identified as Fati, who regained freedom after spending two years in Boko Haram’s captivity, has explained how teenage girls volunteer to go on suicide missions in order to escape molestation and other forms of hardship under the sect.
Fati, whose name was changed to protect her identity, said young girls fight to strap on a bomb, not because they were brainwashed by their captors but because the relentless hunger and sexual abuse became too much to bear.
“They came to us to pick us. They would ask, ‘Who wants to be a suicide bomber?’ The girls would shout, ‘me, me, me.’
They were fighting to do the suicide bombings,” Fati told CNN.
“It was just because they want to run away from Boko Haram. If they give them a suicide bomb, then maybe they would meet soldiers, tell them, ‘I have a bomb on me’ and they could remove the bomb. They can run away.”
The teenager who was kidnapped from her village by the insurgents shared her experience with CNN at a refugee camp in Cameroon.

Yesterday marks the second rain in Gombe local government Gombe state.
The rain was so heavy that nobody was outside. Some minutes after the rain started, we heard a very loud bang. everybody thought it was a bomb blast.
these morning, we came out and saw that the longest tree in our neighborhood and probably one of the longest tree in Gombe state broke last night due to the strong wind and heavy rainfall last night.
I dont know the English name for the tree but northerners call it Gibino tree.
The tree serves as habitat for bats because of its height.
these morning, people came to hunt for bat and about 1000 or more bats were caught because bats can't see in the morning.

Rapid Response Squad (RRS) operative, Corporal Nasir Abdul, was yesterday knocked down by a hit-and-run driver, who was trying to evade arrest for traffic offence. Abdul was rushed to the nearby Accident and Emergency Centre at the Old Toll Gate following the accident, which occurred on Ikosi Road around 5pm.
The driver, Yusuf Ogunbiyi, 35, an auto–technician was chased and arrested at his workshop on Ogundele Street, off Ikosi Road by another team of RRS riders.
Ogunbiyi, who drove a Toyota Sienna 2003 model marked LSD 573 DR, said he was going to Oregun from Mowe, adding: “I got to 7up, I didn’t know the outlet from Ikosi Road was one-way, I entered it and I was waved down by a Traffic Police Officer and a Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) official but I tried to evade them, unknowing to me, an RRS rider was equally trying to stop me but the vehicle was too close to him, I swerved off immediately in a bid to escape.
But, I ended up knocking him (RRS rider) off the road with the bumper. I was too shock and afraid, even though my colleagues in the car told me to stop, I sped off. They traced me to my workshop and that was where I was arrested.
“I am sorry for everything; I didn’t know that place is one-way. I just finished my apprenticeship and looking for funds for my graduation.”

Three million jobs would be created in the country within three years starting in 2016 especially in Technology, Wholesale & Retail, Construction and Agro-allied sectors of the Nigerian economy. This private sector-led job creation plan is different from the direct government jobs planned by the Buhari presidency which includes the 500,000 teaching jobs for unemployed graduates. The Job Creation Unit was constituted at the behest of President Buhari to initiate the job creation plan. I Used My Hands to Hold My Intestines – Student Survivor of Mile 12 Lagos Clash Narrates Experience

A candidate of the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) examination was a victim of the March 3rd fatal clash that killed many people at the Mile 12 area of Lagos State.

A 16-year-old candidate of the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) examination, Kalejaiye Bolaji, who was a victim of the fatal clash that killed many people at the Mile 12 area of Lagos State has recounted his ordeal on that fateful day.
The JAMB candidate was caught in the sporadic bullet gunfires by policemen at the scene, as he returned from the UTME examination center that afternoon.
Kalejaiye who has just undergone one phase of surgical treatment at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH) and still waiting to go under the blades for another phase of the surgeries, narrated his experience of the deadly Mile 12 clash in Lagos.

The survivor of the fatal clash of ethnic agitators, said;  “I had just left my center after writing the JAMB test and when I got to the road at Mile 12, I saw people raising their hands, and I also did same, just to be able to get home,” he started.
He said a gun bullet had suddenly pierced him from behind and he next saw his intestine pouring out of his stomach at his front. “I used my hands to hold my intestine from falling down and I was pushing them back inside,” he continued.
He said he saw a police station and hastened his steps there for protection and help, but was bounced out by the police officers who saw him dying with a delicate bullet-opening on his stomach. “They said this is a police station and not a hospital. They shouted at me to go out,” he said as he narrated.

Man Of God Who Challenged Lions Almost Killed In South Africa

A Zion Christian Church prophet who was filled with the Holy Spirit recently ‘challenged’ a lion to do battle in the Kruger National Park. 

Prophet Alec Ndiwane who is based in the Pretoria Soshanguve was with fellow church members in the Kruger National Park where they were watching animals. 

It is believed the prophet went into a trance and started to speak in tongues. Ahead of them was a lion pride busy eating their impala. Alec must have thought he was the biblical Samson as the prophet opened the car door and went charging towards the lions. 

Upon seeing the man running towards them, the lions could not believe that manna was coming straight from heaven and instead ran towards the prophet. Alec must have then come to his senses as he quickly realised this was not going to end well and made an immediate turn and ran back to safety. 

But before he could safely reach the confines of the car, one lion had snapped its paws on him thus causing major damage to his toilet sitting tool. Also thanks to the game ranger who was near who fired some shots with his gun to scare the lion away.

So severe was the lion paw injury that Alec had to be rushed to hospital for emergency surgery. The man was fearing he would lose his bum but the doctor’s assured him he would still have his left bum intact.

“I do not know what came over me’, Alec confessed, ‘I thought the Lord wanted to use me to show his power over animals. Is it not we were given dominion over all creatures of the earth’, Alec added. Alec was eventually stitched up and discharged after spending the night in hospital.

BREAKING: Court Remands Lekki Gardens MD, Contractor In Custody

The Ebute-Meta Magistrate Court has remanded the Managing Director of Lekki Gardens, Mr. Nyong Richard, and a contractor, Odofin Taiwo, in police custody for their role in the collapse of a five-storey building in Lekki, Lagos.
The building, which was under construction had collapsed on Tuesday, killing 35 people and injuring several others.
Magistrate, Mrs. Afolashade Bokotu, ordered that Richard and Taiwo, who were brought to the court in handcuffs earlier today should be kept in police custody at the State Department of Criminal Investigation, Yaba for the next 30 days, pending the conclusion of police investigation.

The Lagos State government had arraigned both men two days after it accused the management of Lekki Gardens, where the building collapsed of being responsible for the incident.
In a statement by the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr. Steve Ayorinde, on Wednesday, the state government said the building had been sealed by the Lagos State Building Control Agency, only for the management of Lekki Gardens, to continue without approval.
“Based on preliminary reports and investigation, it was discovered that the collapsed building was served contravention notice for exceeding the approved floors and thereafter sealed by the Lagos State Building Control Agency,” the statement read in part.
The state government, however, said it had been discovered that “in a brazen act of defiance and impunity, the owners of the building, Messrs Lekki Worldwide Estate Limited, the promoters of Lekki Gardens, criminally unsealed the property and continued building beyond the approved floors until the unfortunate incident of Tuesday which has led to loss of lives.”
The Lagos State Governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode, consequently, directed the directors of Messrs Lekki Worldwide Estate, the promoters of Lekki Gardens, to report to the Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr. Fatai Owoseni, within 24 hours or face arrest.
Richard and Taiwo were arrested on Thursday.

Boko Haram: We Didn’t Ask South Africa To Send Us Soldiers - Defence Ministry

The clarification was made by Colonel Tukur Gusau, a spokesman for the Minister of Defence Mansur Dan-Ali, via a statement released on Thursday, March 10, 2016.

The Ministry of Defence has said Nigeria is not asking South Africa to send it soldiers to help in the fight against Boko Haram.

The statement reads in part:

“Nigeria also recognised the expertise of South Africa in the area of training Special Forces for counter-insurgency operations. Therefore, Nigeria seeks   cooperation in the area of training and transfer of skills for our own forces from the South Africa National Defence Force.”

The clarification comes following widespread media reports that South Africa had promised to send soldiers to help Nigeria fight the terrorist sect.

The reports have also been denied by South African authorities.

26 year old Ademola Owolana, has been declared missing in the US after he went to a club at 11600 block of South Michigan Avenue in Chicago, USA, on Saturday February 20th and never returned home. Ademola who lives in London, was in America for a short visit when he disappeared.

He had gone to Club LowKey Lounge with some of his family members and friends when he disappeared. Narrating what happened, one of his relatives, Sheriff Akinoso, who was at the club with him, said he become aggressive and demanded his car keys, but he refused giving the keys to Ademola because he can't legally drive in the United States and he had been drinking.

"I said I can't give you the car keys. Hold on, let me call the last person and he could move the car. He said, 'give me the car keys."he said

Akinoso says when Owolana could not get the car keys, he started to run on 117th Street and has not been seen since.

"I'm just worried. It was more like a joke. Now it's getting more serious," he added.

Meanwhile his distraught mum, Bolanle Owolana, was interviewed by FOX32 news where she called for help from the public to help find her missing son.

 "Oh my God, please just help me find my son. Help me, help me find my son,” said mother Bolanle Owolana. "I don't want to think the worst. I don't want to think the worst because down here I heard it's dangerous".

His family has offered $5000 to anyone with useful information on his whereabouts. Ademola is black, with a medium complexion, standing about 5-foot-6 and weighing about 130 pounds. He has brown eyes and black hair. He was last seen wearing a black jacket, burgundy shirt, blue pants and gray gym shoes, according to police.
