Man Seeking ‘Spiritual’ Healing At Synagogue Church Dies In Hotel Fire
A man, identified as Mr. Felix Ifeanyi, was on Tuesday night burnt to death after fire gutted his room at High Climax Hotel, Ikotun area of Lagos. The fire reportedly started from a candle which Ifeanyi lit before he slept about 11p.m.
The candle fell on the furniture and caught fire. Sources said that Ifeanyi, a worshipper at the Synagogue Church of All Nations (SCOAN), had been bedridden for months after contracting an unknown ailment.
Efforts to get cure at different hospitals proved abortive.
In search of cure, it was learnt that the family abandoned medical means for spiritual healing at the church. Worried by the large number of local and international worshippers who usually throng the church for healing, the family decided to secure a room at the hotel located a few metres away from the church headquarters last Thursday.
It was learnt other lodgers at the hotel were not aware of the inferno until his five year- old son ran out, calling for assistance.
Efforts to put out the fire early were abortive because they were unable to source water.
The state Police Public Relations Officers (PPRO), Dolapo Badmus, said investigation had commenced into the inferno which claimed Ifeanyi’s life. She said:
“We will conduct an autopsy on the corpse.
At 23:35 hours, Emmanuel Eze, the Manager of High Climax Hotel in Egbe reported that Ifeanyi Felix, a lodger in the hotel, put on candlelight which resulted in fire outbreak, and the said Ifeanyi was burnt to death.
“The remains of the deceased have been deposited at Isolo General Hospital for autopsy.”

Tragedy: Couple Die In High Tension Cable Incident
A carpenter, Muritador Ajayi has reportedly lost his life after a high tension wife fell on the roof of a building he was working on.
The Punch reports that the tragic incident happened on Friday, January 22 when the 51 year old carpenter was working on the roof of a building under construction on Bamigboye street in the Mushin area of Lagos.
Power was restored while he was using the hammer on the roof thereby electrocuting him. He collapsed and was rushed to the hospital where he was declared dead.
It was reported that his wife, Taye on getting the news of her husband’s demise fainted and was also pronounced dead in a hospital.
One of the carpenter’s sons, Sunkanmi said he was with his father when the incident happened and that the couples have been buried in accordance with Islamic rite.
He said: “It was around 9am last Friday that the incident happened. My father was contracted to roof the house which was under construction. There was a high-tension wire that passed near the roof of that particular house.
“He had asked me to lift a plank for him so he could lay it on the roof. I just noticed that he fell off the roof; I thought his feet slipped. I later realised that it was when he lifted the hammer that he was electrocuted and fell.
“I saw him vomiting blood and I started shouting for help, but nobody came. It was as if the area was deserted.”
Yusuf, who is another child of the deceased said Taiye was their father’s second wife and that she followed them to the hospital when her husband was rushed there.
“The doctor asked us to take our father into the ward, and we were asked to wait outside. My father’s second wife followed us to the hospital and waited at the gate.
“But someone took her to a shop and it was there that a child went to break the news to her that her husband was dead; she collapsed immediately. She was taken to a private hospital on Araromi Street, where she was also pronounced dead.”
The victim’s first wife, Nosimat said she and her husband have been married for 24 year.
“We have been married for over 24 years and we had four children together. The morning the incident happened, he said all those who were supposed to join him to work on the building gave excuses and said they could not join him.
“I was the one who called our son to support him. Even Sunkanmi said he had a place to go, but I begged him to join his father. About 15 minutes after they left, power was restored. Some minutes after, Sunknami ran home and started screaming that his father had been electrocuted.”

According to The Nation, the accident occurred around 9.45 am in front of a bakery.
