I will not leave my boyfriend because of $25,000 – Tecno Own the Stage winner

Shapeera Makepeace, winner of Tecno Own the Stage
After 12 episodes, the first ever karaoke competition in Africa, Tecno Own Tthe Stage finally came to an end on Sunday, February 7, 2016, with Nigeria’s Shapeera Nnena Makepeace walking home with the ultimate prize of $25,000, a recording deal and session with her favourite music star and a Phantom 5 Tecno phone.
The excited Shapeera spoke to Naij Reporters on her surprise at her win and why she would remain faithful to her boyfriend despite becoming an instant millionaire.
How do you feel?
I can’t believe it I feel great, humbled privileged. I’m just so excited. I can’t believe it. I just thank God that he brought me this far and made me the winner. He singled me out of the crowd of great singers and stood me out. It’s awesome, it’s amazing.
Were you surprised at your win?
Yes I was. Nandy is very good. She was always a threat. I wonder how she didn’t emerge the winner. She’s got stage presence that I was so scared of. But I think what worked for me was what the vocal coaches taught us. They said we should have confidence no matter how nervous we were on stage. I managed to build on my confidence.
Is Shaapera your real name and which state are you from?
Yes, Shaapera is my real name. I’m from Benue state, I’m a Tiv girl, a positive girl. I chose it as my stage name.
You just won a karaoke competition. Do you think you have what it takes to be an all-round singer instead of just a karaoke champion?
Aside from it being a karaoke competition, we had to perform and were judged for our vocals and performances. So aside from the karaoke competition, I can sing, perform and I write my own songs.
When did you started doing music?
I started in the university, Benue State University to be precise. A friend of mine who believed in me put on some instrumental beats, went to take his bath and returned to find me rapping on it – I started as a rapper actually – so, he was like, I had to perform with him at a show he was having that night. That was how the journey started for me. I became a university celebrity overnight.
Are you through with your first degree?
Yes, I’m done with schooling, I have served, I’m working.  In fact, I’m a teacher – a humble teacher for that matter.
So how did a teacher get to know about Tecno Own the Stage?
It was a friend, Ovie, he kept on disturbing about this upcoming Tecno competition, urging me to go for it. I had practically given up on competitions. Anytime I go, I don’t get to go too far so I was like maybe I don’t have what it takes. He kept on urging me to attend. Even on the day I was to audition, I was sleeping. He just called to tell me he was at the venue and I should start coming now. I had to rush there unprepared. I never believed I was going to be picked because what I heard was they are going to pick five people out of the whole crowd of Nigerians there. I was just so privileged to have been picked.
You said you’ve had disappointments at competitions, How many have you been part of prior to this?
I have been at MTN Project Fame countless times, the Nigerian Idol twice, I was at Nokia First Chance competition when I first got to Lagos but I didn’t go far, I was kicked out.
What is your plan for your huge prize considering the dollar exchange rate in the market right now?
First thing why I came into the competition was to get money and sing but now I’m gonna keep that money because I’ve also got a free record deal, that is a huge privilege for me. Aside from that I’m gonna work with stars, that is another big plus for me. So, I’m gonna keep the money then invest it. I don’t believe in spending it on buying cars, land, or a house. Let me keep it first and think of what to invest it on so it grows. And from growing, I can take its seed when it becomes very big to start thinking of buying a car for my daddy. I have something I want to buy for him too, that one is in my heart anyway and my mama. I won this for my parents, loved ones and everyone that voted.
Do you have a boyfriend and if yes was he in support of this?
Yes, he is happy. He has been rooting for me and he said he was gonna watch this final episode live.
Now that you have the money, are you going to leave him any time soon?
He was there for me before I even won the money, why should I leave him? He knew me before I even became something so I’ve got to reason to leave him. The money made was all for him and for us.

Davido didn't pay me to feature on Oshinachi remix - Humblesmith

Humblesmith and Davido
Budding singer, Humblesmith has addressed reports that Davido paid to feature on his hit song, Osinachi.
Davido in the song had addressed his baby mama issues but in an interview with Punch newspaper, Humblesmith said Davido’s lyrics in the remix does not deviated from the original message of the song.
“No, I have not. Osinachi still means ‘From God’ irrespective of the person that was featured in the remix or the lines he dropped,” he said.
“I don’t think he insulted anybody in the song. Music is life, it is reality. It lets people know what is happening in your life. Davido said ‘My humble father sinachi, my loving daughter sinachi, Dele Momodu sinachi, no be by force to go Dubai’. That is what is trending in his life. Don’t forget that there is a place he said ‘I forgive and forget.”
He maintained that he does not regret featuring Davido on the song and that he does not need to ask to see his lyrics before he recorded.
Debunking reports that he was paid, Humblesmith said “that is social media for you. I did not pay Davido and he did not pay me also.”
He added that the remix will not have a negative effect on his career.
“It is not going to affect my career in any way. Some people love the original version which has Phyno in it while others prefer the remix with Davido. Different strokes for different folks.”

What being a celebrity has cost me – Sola Kosoko

Sola Kosoko
Though she has been in the acting profession since 1999, Janet Wasilat Sola Kosoko, the daughter of Prince Jide Kosoko became prominent because of her dexterity in the role she played in the chart busting movie Omo Olorire. Despite being the daughter of a veteran Nollywood actor, Sola is not ready to live under the shadow of her father, and truly, this beautiful Nollywood actress has been dishing out grade A performances, as revealed in this encounter.
Can you recall the day you lost your mum?
It was in September 1993
Where were you when you got the news?
I was with my grandma who was training us before my mother’s death. It was my dad who broke the news to my grandma.
How did you react to the sad news?
The normal reaction when you lose someone you love, but because I was young, you won’t compare the kind of feeling I had then with what I would have had now. If my mum had just died, the way I would have felt now is definitely not the way I had felt then. Then, I was just like, “Oh, my mother died” and I cried
Looking back, what do you think you would have benefited if she were to be around now?
I cannot begin to count the benefits. There would have been a lot, especially when I was in the University. I really felt the vacuum. A lot of mothers were always coming around, bringing palm oil and other stuff for their daughter that was when it actually dawned on me that I didn’t have a mum. My daddy cannot bring palm oil though he would always come to see me, but that is not comparable to the impact of a mother. Secondly, when I was getting married, I knew that something was missing. Though I hardly cry, I felt the pain deep in me. There are a lot of times I would cry in my closet though.
What are the disadvantages of being a star?
The negative side of it is that we spend a lot of money on touts. They don’t want to know whether you have money or not. Sometimes, you might go out without much in your pocket, but they will collect money from you at every junction; that we cannot help. It is the kind of society we have. I have been to Europe a number of times. There, they don’t ask you for money; instead they give you gifts. Someone gave me a phone; he just removed his SIM card, and handled over the phone to me. But in our society, it is the other way round.
If you were not an actress, what would you have been?
I had wanted to be a broadcaster. I love to be seen on TV; casting the news.
Sola Kosoko, her husband and her father, Jide Kosoko on her wedding day

What would you consider the most trying period for your life?
My staying at home for five years before gaining admission to go to the university. Though I was going through a certificate course, it was not like the real university thing. Then I was being distracted by movies jobs. Sometimes, procrastination in terms of obtaining forms made me miss so many opportunities. Before my four year degree programme I did a two year diploma course. That experience hurt me.
Tell me in confidence, before you finally got married, how many men did you date?
I dated like hundred (laugh). Really, I didn’t have that experience. The man that is my husband has always been with me since I was in secondary school.  I remember the first JAMB I wrote, we did the ‘runs’ together. At that time, he was already a graduate.

Women really dealt with me and dumped me- Sir Shina Peters

The Juju Ace Singer
Veteran fuji musician Sir Shina Peters whose wife recently survived survived cancer in an interview speaks on how women dealt with him at a young age by introducing him to early sex.
In an interview with YNaija, Sir Shina Peters disclosed that he being a music artist boils down to his religious background adding that when he discovered he was fully ready for music, he told his parents he was no longer interested in going to school.
He said: “my being a musician today all boils to my religious background. I’m from Cherubim and Seraphim and there is no way you’ll be C&S-born and you won’t have music in you. I think I got it from the church. At first I didn’t think I will do music but when I was about to go to the higher school then I had a dream. I heard a voice say ‘Choose one from your left or right hand’ and I opened my left one and I saw music.
I called my parents and told them I’m not going to school anymore. That was all. Nothing really inspired me. It was a call from God. I was so young I guess I was close to 10-years-old when I took the decision. Nobody wanted to hear me but immediately I got the call, my career started. As I was walked out of the house at 2 am, I trekked from Oshodi to Olorunshogo in Mushin. I saw an hotel and I went there. When I got there, I took the drum from the guy that was playing it then and everyone was like ‘Who is this little boy that plays the drum like this? That’s how it all started.”
Speaking on his many ordeals with women and how he has managed to release 16 albums, Shina Peters said:
Sir Shina Peters
It is only in this country we do not believe in abuse. Women really dealt with me. When I didn’t even know anything about sex, they used me a lot. I still have 100 of them and I can mention their names. They took advantage of my youthful exuberance. That’s the only thing but thanks to God I was able to correct it. In my days, when you got an artiste’s house, you get to see nothing less than 4 women in the same house.”
Addressing the issue of the many controversies in the music industry making reference to the ‘2016 beefs’ and advice to upcoming artists, the music legend disclosed that we are not meant to fight each other adding that young artists to remain honest, be prayerful and learn to fast.
Sir Shina Peters said: “There is meant to be no room for such nonsense. We are not meant to fight each other. We must embrace ourselves as one big family. That’s my philosophy. Have the fear of God. Have a conscience. Be very prayerful and fast. Be honest. If they are honest to people, they can never be honest to themselves.”

Read What 2face Idibia Said In Response To Blackface’s Copyright Allegations

The current copyright issue rocking the Nigerian music industry is taking a whole new dimension with several artistes calling out one another.
The responses in the wake of this have been interesting to see.
Veteran dancehall singer Blackface has been part of the entire process as he first called out Wizkid, but he has most recently focused on 2Baba, saying the singer ‘stole’ his song Let Somebody Love You.
This allegation has made the news around the nation, with many wondering and asking why it took this long for him to speak out if indeed his songs were stolen.
In a new development, the accused singer 2Baba has weighed in on the discourse. He revealed that the allegations from his former group mate were unfortunate.
Speaking to Channels TV, he said he does not know how the allegations came about.
He added that he first thought Blackface’s Twitter account was hacked when the allegations started to make the news.
My brother it’s just so unfortunate. I do not know where it is coming from [but] I am trying to think of different reasons.
“At first I first thought his account was hacked or something. Apparently it wasn’t hacked, so…We will trash the whole matter but I got nothing but love and respect for him and it is just so unfortunate that he is coming at me like that.”
He added that he has nothing but love for the Killah singer even though he clearly doesn’t feel same way towards him.
2Baba said: “Apparently he doesn’t consider me his friend anymore but I wish him no ill-will. Let’s leave it like that for now.”
See full interview below:

Blackface is a veteran Nigerian dancehall singer who was a key member of the defunct music group, Plantashun Boiz.
He is widely famed for co-writing the multi award-winning song African Queen, as well as for his lyrical contributions to the group which also had 2face Idibia and Faze.
The group broke up in the early 2000s and saw singer 2face rise to international prominence while the other members struggle to grapple with the harsh tides of swimming in the Nigerian music industry on a solo career

Ice Prince And Maima Secretly Married? (Photos)

Moments ago, first lady of Chocolate City’s Ice Prince Maima Nkewa shared snaps of her and Iceprince together.
In one of the photos obtained by Olisa Tv from her Snapshat account, she said, “Mine forever,” and but what is of interest to us is the strategically taken photo to capture her ring finger, in which Maima is wearing a simple gold ring. A ring that suspiciously looks like a wedding band.
In the past she has referred to Ice Prince as ‘hubby’. Who knows, it might have a deeper meaning than we are all imagining.

Why I Refused To Sign Ola Dips Into YBNL – Olamide

Guess you all know Ola Dips has been Signed to Reminisce’s record label, LRR/EDGE Records. Read HERE
OlaDips dropped back to back hit singles and was featured in so many tracks last year under Ob9ja management,  It was glaring that he had caught the affection of so many Label Bosses, Including the YBNL Label boss.
As a matter of fact, a good questionnaire would have predicted Olamide signing Ola dips. The big question is what went wrong with nature?.
After weeks and months of silence the YBNL C.E.O, Olamide confirms his admiration for the young rapper, but insists he would love some competition, He further noted that He shares almost the same style with “Chinko Ekun“, with just a little difference, It would be hard branding Oladips as a YBNL Artiste because it would implicate that one of them changes style. Quite reasonable from Olamide, He’s not only and artiste but also a business man that understands branding andthe elements of marketing.
He further stresses that Oladips can always stake a competition and keep other young rappers on their toes, If he’s signed to YBNL, YBNL might enjoy a monotony and Oladips might not be able to live up to his full potential because of lack of competition.
Above all The YBNL Boss wishes him well and hopes he enjoys a successful career at LRR/EDGE Records.

Open Letter To Egbon Olamide!! Ola Dips Is Here, Free Chinko Ekun… (Must Read)

Dear Olamide, Ola dips is here to stay and you are still holding down Chinko Ekun, the only hardcore rapper you got.
Why dont you let him release tracks instead of freestyles up and down, the freestyles are cool but you get tired of being fed same thing all the time.

Hope you read this and have a rethink “Egbon Olamide”.
