Four time world footballer of the year, Lionel Messi was crowned the best player of 2015 at the Globe Soccer Awards in Dubai on Sunday, December 27.
The Argentine forward won the award ahead of arch-rival and Real Madrid striker, Christiano Ronaldo and others.
Elated by the award, Messi said: “I’m obviously very happy but all these awards are for the whole club.”
The Barcelona superstar led the Catalan Giants to five trophies, including the Club World Cup, as well as the team of the year award.
Messi also helped Argentina to reach the final of the Copa America where they lost to hosts Chile in the summer.
The goal machine has scored 61 goals so far in his 60 appearances in 2015 and is among the top three players shortlisted for the Ballon d’Or award in January.
