A family of ten met with a very ugly fate in the early hours of Sunday, November 29, after their truck plunged into River Nyakiabi in Gatundu North.
The unfortunate family which included two kids, reportedly drowned in the wee hours Sunday, while making its way back home to Kandara in Murang’a County
Traffic commandant, Jacinta Kinyua told Capital News that the family was returning from a dowry ceremony which held in Nyahururu on Saturday, November 27.
Witnesses say eight people died on spot while two others died while being transported to hospital.
Kinyua disclosed that five others who were involved in the crash, survived and were receiving treatment.
The police believes that the driver’s fatigue must have led to the mishap.
According to a report on the website of the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA), about 1,983 Kenyans have died due to road accidents between 1st January 2015 to 2nd September 2015.
The report further reports that majority of the dead were pedestrians at 847 and passengers at 457.
