The anticipation for the oft-delayed second studio album from Davido has been heightened with his recent music business strides and international collaborations.
Here are five reasons the HKN Music leader needs to release his album now.
1. Deal with Sony Music Entertainment / RCA Records
Davido has signed with RCA Records, an extension of his deal with Sony Music Entertainment |
Davido can capitalise on his deal with the renowned music distribution company while it’s hot. Since the announcement of the deal in January, the singer hasn’t dominated the airwaves with new music, instead choosing to focus more on his new signees, Mayourkunand Dremo.
2. International collaborations
Davido and Tinashe’s new music to hit the airwaves soon. |
Promised collaborations with Young Thug, Trey Songz and Tinashe has put the singer in good stead on the international front. The buzz of his collaborative efforts have however started cooling off, with colleagues like Wizkid starting to dominate the airwaves with new releases.
3. Collaboration with Wizkid
Davido has formed a good friendship with erstwhile rival, Wizkid: NET.ng |
Wizkid is Africa’s golden boy at the moment, and Davido can very well thrive off their newfound friendship. After initially battling as rivals, the duo have made up and shared the stage together on many occasions. A collaboration (which has already been teased) would do well for both stars right now.
4. The disappointment that was Omo Baba Olowo
Davido’s debut album, Omo Baba Olowo was met with lukewarm reception |
Davido needs to erase the disappointment of his mediocre debut studio album, Omo Baba Olowo and prove he can produce a solid body of work. Much of the delay of a follow up since the album’s release in 2012 has been attributed to the singer’s fear of failing to craft an album worthy of replay value.
5. Diverse subject matter
Davido has taken up a fatherhood role since his baby, Imade’s arrival |
Davido’s music has been known to suffer a lack of diverse subject matter. He can change all that with a album that touches topics such as the challenges of raising his daughter Imade (and no, we don’t mean calling Dele Momodu his boy), the in-house direction with his signed acts, and even on his decision to sponsor some students with his proposed scholarship scheme.
