A monkey has been held responsible for a countrywide power outage in the Kenya, a spokesperson of national electricity provider KenGen said Wednesday.
he spokesperson of Kenys’a electricity provider, Zebby Sambu, stated that the monkey jumped onto the roof of the Gitaru power station in the capital, Nairobi, on Tuesday, fell onto a transformer and tripped it.
She said:-
“The resulting blackout caused power outages across Kenya for several hours, since the plant generates about 80 per cent of the country’s electricity.
“The monkey was alive and had been handed over to the Kenyan Wildlife Service.”
The company also said: “KenGen power installations are secured by electric fencing, which keeps away marauding wild animals.”
“We regret this isolated incident and the company is looking at ways of further enhancing security at all our power plants.”
“The monkey survived and was given to Kenya’s wildlife services”.
