Most Capped Footballer Shot Dead By Unknown Gunmen

Alfredo Pacheco, a footballer who played for the El Salvador national team has been murdered by unknown assailants, The Guardian reports.

The 33-year-old footballer was earlier banned for life for match-fixing.
Pacheco, was reported to be chatting with a group of friends at a petrol station yesterday, Sunday, December 29, when unknown assailants opened fire on the group. The two other guys were injured and they were rushed to Santa Ana, west of the capital, San Salvador.

“The attorney general’s office in Santa Ana processed the crime scene of the murder of Alfredo Pacheco at 3.30am in a petrol station,” it said.
Pacheco has played for Salvadorian clubs, Club Deportivo FAS and Asociacion Deportiva Isidro Metapan. He has also played for New York Red Bulls in the US. He is the current El Salvador national team’s most capped player.
The player was however banned from football activities by the Salvadorian football federation in 2013 when he was found guilty of match-fixing.
However, it was reported that murder rate in El Salvador has increased in 2015. Police data estimated murders to 6, 068 this year alone.
